My name's Patrick, and I'm a blogger and gamer from California.
I think a pretty gamer is an empowered one. It's often said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but everyone can see that the pretty people are the ones who are happiest with themselves. I think it's the contrast between self-identity and the perception from outside the gamersphere that really draws me to this site. Finding gamers of any stripe who are confident and proud of themselves is hard; many of us didn't grow up with the greatest self-image in the world, and it seems like gamer culture is just now getting a shot at showing off that we can be pretty too.
My goal in writing for Pretty Gamer is to talk about and study the notion that prettiness is a reflection of the self. Without any kind of judgment or value placed on aesthetics or image, what qualifies as pretty to gamers is as diverse as anything imaginable. Gamers come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, temperaments, and backgrounds. Given all these different strands of character, it's hard to think of what unites us as gamers especially when it comes to the notion of "pretty". Yet, for all our differences, we are all gamers and our shared identity gives us a common ground to start from.
I'm looking forward to sharing ideas and talking about all of us pretty, pretty gamers.
